Autopsis 2004

Artist as Exploratory Drone/Scope

Autopsis takes place four times during the run of the You Are Here exhibition.

The audience is directed to the vinyl enclosure at the back of the installation. Positioned in front of the security monitors in the enclosure is a woman in a white pod-shaped costume. Her face visible but her body hidden, she looks at a color monitor showing the exterior of the Yurt/shirt. The artist wears a welder’s mask fitted with a color video camera instead of the glass, obscuring his vision. The image on the color monitor is the image from this camera (his”POV”). Connected to the womam by radio, he is able to hear her voice but not to speak back to her. He wears a clear vinyl suit covered in bells.

She proceeds to explore first the exterior and then the interior of the installation with his body, using the POV video, and security camera monitors as her guide, while the audience watches over her shoulder.
