Trog’s Loop, 2008
Installation at Williamson Gallery, Art Center College of Design, Pasadena
Designed for a group exhibition entitled Observe, this installation was the result of a year of discussions with the astrophysicists at CalTech running the Spitzer Infrared Space Telescope.
Using the allegory of Plato’s Cave as a guiding metaphor, the installation probes behind the veil of visible light where alternate realities can be found. Like a conceptual telescope, the interactive piece allows the visitor to discover the repercussions of her actions without seeing them, as they are processed through filters of time and space. At each station, video signals are played and re-recorded and sent on. As with light passing through clouds of cosmic dust and gas, the image degrades along its journey.
